2010 LATE MODEL

                                  RULES AND REGULATIONS

1) GENERAL RULES

A.      The general rules for the Sycamore Speedway apply to the Late Model Class also.

B.      Open to any American 8-cylinder car with a stock wheelbase no less than 108 inches.  No convertibles or compacts.

C.      We want everybody to have a chance to race in the Late Model Class.  We will not allow any goodies or high performances parts or pieces.  NO EXCEPTION.  For further information, contact us.

 

D.     If a Late Model Driver is champion for two consecutive years, he must move up to Super Late Model Class.

 

2) SAFETY

A.      Remove all glass except windshield and remove rear seat before coming to track.

B.    All doors must be securely fastened, either welded or chained.

C.    Fill disk in steering wheel is highly recommended.

3) WHEELBASE

A.      No modifications or change in engineering of car whatsoever.

B.      Must be stock wheelbase for model of car (both sides).

C.      Wheelbase-108 inches minimum.

4) FRAMES AND ROLL CAGE

A.      NO added weights.  All bracing and reinforcing must be inside car.  NO boxed frames anywhere.  NO solid material used for bracing.  All bracing above original floor.

B.      NO added frames.  Unibody must stay unibody.

C.      All reinforcement must be below trunk lid or hood and covered with stock bumper.

D.      Roll bars must be installed.  NO welding on threads or threaded joints allowed.  All cars must have driver’s door protection.  No galvanized pipe.  NO bracing roll cage to front or rear stub inside car.

E.       Frame and Roll Cage-From rear of front stub to front of rear spring hangers, all bracing must be above original floor pan which must be O.E.M.  From front spring hanger to rear bumpers, all bracing must be above original floor pan which must be O.E.M.

F.       Spring and shock hangers must be in O.E.M. stock position and WILL BE MEASURED.  NO ADJUSTABLES.

G.      Front roll bars-post ONLY can be hooked to front stub.  Cameros must have stock floor pan installed in original position.

5) SUSPENSION

A.      You may reinforce the right front wheel and A-frame.  NO repositioning allowed of A-frame.  Right front wheel camber 12 degrees maximum.  Fords may lengthen bottom of right front only A-frame.  (1 1/2 inch maximum) General Motors may shorten top of right front A-frame 1 1/2 inch maximum by shimming only.  MoPar may tighten torsion bar moderately.  The above will be measured from stock ORIGINAL POSITION.

B.      Spindles; STOCK TYPE ONLY, NO heavy duty.

C.      All springs must be uniform and sit level with the ground.  Cars must sit level (reasonable).   Five inch minimum frame clearance eight (8) inches all four corners.  No sway bars on rear.  Stock appearing suspension only.  Stock diameter on front sway bar; NO adjustable bolt; stock only.

D.      REAR SPRING - 4 maximum.  58 inches maximum length.  BOTH SIDES-SAME SPRINGS.  STOCK TYPE ONLY.  General Motor cars may put leaf springs on rear axles, but must follow specification in rulebook for other brands.  No use of extra long leaf spring.  Must be of stock length.  Mounted in stock position.  Rear axle-only one set up; either leaf or coil spring.

E.       Any shock mountable in standard (stock) mount allowed, but NO helper spring type.  NO alteration of shocks or mounts allowed.  No air shocks.  Shocks must be same diameter all 4 corners.  NO added shock mounts.  NO adjustables.  NO additives allowed in shocks.  Shocks must be of 50/50 valuing.  NO tampering with shocks.  NO shock mounts welded to roll bar or bracing without special permission.

F.       SHOCKS - NO race company products.  NO ADJUSTABLES.  Street or passenger type only.  Shock must be removed through bottom of suspension without any alterations of spring or A-frame.  Winners, or anyone racing, must remove any shock for inspection before being paid off.  Shocks must work.

6) WHEELS AND TIRES

A.      Tire – Hoosier or Hurst racing tire 15” – available at Sycamore Speedway.

B.      Wheels 15” steel only.  Max. rim width 8”.  Racing wheel optional, no bead locks.  One-inch pipe permitted over valve stem.  Max. offset 3” – no spacers.

C.      BRAKES - disc brakes optional.  NO disc brakes on rear.  NO brake balance systems.   This means NO ADJUSTABLE front to rear brake system.

D.      Racing studs and nuts recommended

7) CARBURETION

A.      Carburetion is limited to 1 two-barrel Rochester carburetor.  Maximum Venture opening is 1.250”. 

B.      CARBURETORS: must be stock mounted.  NO drilling of carburetor or manifold.  No altering to mount. 

C.      Pump grade gas only.  No racing gas.

D.      No 4-barrel intake manifolds.

E.       Ford and MoPar may use a Holley 2 barrel 4412 with an adapter with a 1.250 venture opening.

8) ENGINE - NO V-6's

A.      All engines must be stock appearing and in stock position.  Rigid mounts are allowed.  Engine in stock location only.  NO aluminum heads.  Stock heads only must have OEM casting numbers.  NO angle spark plug heads.  Right front spark plug must be straight in line with right front ball joint; no tolerance.  NO aluminum engines.

B.      Oil cooler permissible and oil pans with increased capacities permissible.  All radiators must fit under the hood.  NO hood modifications.  Any illegal cars will be prohibited from pit area.

C.      ENGINES & TRANSMISSIONS: May be interchanged with other makes such as a Chevy motor and trans in a Ford, etc.  Frame and body, suspension and etc., cannot be interchanged.  Engine must be mounted in original mounts or if altered, front spark plug must be in line with right front ball joint.  Engine must be stock appearing.  Firewall may not be altered or the body altered.  STOCK STEEL STICK SHIFT FLYWHEEL ONLY.  NO ALUMINUM OR ANY OTHER TYPE.

9) TRANSMISSION

A.      No racing transmissions, automatic or manual OEM 3 or 4 speed only.

B.      Relocation of shifting mechanism is permissible.  Any stock OEM transmission allowed.  No five-speed transmission allowed.  No in and out boxes.  No racing automatics.  Stock type clutches only.

10) EXHAUST SYSTEM

A.      Standard O.E.M. cast iron exhaust manifold; cast or steel headers; no altering.  Exhaust pipes must extend to the rear or left side only.  Diameter of rear exhaust pipes can be no larger than exhaust pipe from manifold.  No more than two exhaust pipes allowed on any car.  NO 180-degree headers allowed.  Maximum diameter of exhaust pipes/collector is 2 1/2 inches.  Muffler will be required if exceed 100 dcb at 100 feet.

11) REAR ENDS

A.    REAR ENDS must match frame and body of car.

B.    Locked rear ends or positraction permissible.  NO quick changes allowed.  No truck rear ends allowed.

 

12) GAS TANKS

A.    Must be installed in truck and equipped with a steel firewall between driver and tank.

B.    Fuel lines running inside car must have rubber coating.

C.    Fuel pumps mechanical only.  No electrical fuel pumps

D.    GASOLINE ONLY

E.    Fuel cells recommended.

F.     Twenty five (25) gallons maximum.

 

13) THINGS NOT TO USE

A.    No high performance products of any type.  No nerf bars, coil spring spacers, lengthened spindles, heavy shocks, aluminum head and manifold, roller rocker, stud griddle, MSD boxes & MSD ignition module, etc.

 

14) BODIES

A.      Body must be in original position on frame and cannot be altered and must sit level with frame.  STEEL O.E.M. BODIES ONLY.  NO AFTERMARKET BODIES.

B.    No cutting of doors.

C.    Fenders trim must be beyond outer edge of tire line.

D.    Front bracing must be behind factory nosepiece mandatory.  Two-inch ring exposed at the nose of the car for towing purposes.

E.    Any cutting of the hood for vents or radiators must be covered with sheet metal and painted same color as car.

F.     Standard type passenger car steering only.  No steering assist.  Power steering recommended.

15) HOODS

A.    Air scoops permissible (2" maximum height), 10" maximum width or length.  Up to 1 1/2 holes will be permitted to be drilled into the front of the hood for cooling.

16) STEERING

A.    Standard steering only.  No steering assist or quickeners.  Power steering recommended.

17) METRIC CARS.  READ RULES CAREFULLY.

   Late Model rules and regulations apply with these exceptions:

A.        Wheelbase 108” minimum.

B.        Stock exhaust manifolds.

C.        Stock rear end, stock position.

D.        Stock rubber mounting of rear end.

E.        Stock radiator mounting position.

F.         Stock bodies.

G.        Stock floorpan.

H.       No cockpits.

I.          Stock wheelbase.

J.          No screwjacks or spring spacers.
